This mod adds the Flower Festival area as an accessible area to the game, west of the regular forest map and south of the woods. Using Content Patcher features, also adds bits to the existing woods, forest, and desert maps without replacing them.
This is my first ever Stardew Valley mod, so any help in looking for issues, bugs, and advice would be very helpful! I attempted to keep all additions vanilla-feeling.
West Forest:
Based on the flower festival map, I envisioned this area as being a foraging alternative to the quarry, with lots of wood and fiber obtainable here. I imagine the town lets this place run wild when there isnt a festival happening, so it made sense to me. You will find some hardwood logs here, trees, and bushes.
This map is split into two areas, an upper area at the top of the waterfall, and the run-down area at the bottom. The top area can be accessed from the woods, and the bottom is accessed from the forest.
If you have purchased the shortcuts community upgrade, two sets of stairs to the left and right of the waterfall appear and can be used to get up or down the two areas easily.
Fishing at the waterfall can get you some special fish like Goby, fishing at the river will get you some woods fish which have trickled out from there, but otherwise it acts primarily like the forest.
Woods extension:
In the flower festival map, there is a bridge and a tiny pathway hidden under some trees at the topmost part of the map that are hard to see. This felt like unimplemented content to me, so I expanded upon this by making it much more visible.
To make it lead somewhere, I expanded the woods south a bit. This is a new original part of the map which exposes the river and expands the lower visible area downward into a new exit.
Forest cliffside:
I always had an itch to be able to explore this area, and adding the west forest gave me a good opportunity to do this. Once you unlock shortcuts, the pathway at the bottom right of the west forest will be cut out a bit to allow entry into the cliffside. By being able to access this area, you now have more places to fish and sift, and it becomes easier to get a certain secret.
Bonus Desert extension:
There’s some extra map explorable in the desert festival, I decided to bring this to the main map as well. More trees can be found in this small area, and another pond.
Possible issues:
These are issues I know about or assume could happen.
- Because the woods and desert have been extended, I have moved and placed some bushes and trees. If you load this mod and start a save mid-run, bushes will stay at their vanilla positions, looking weird. If you have a means of which to reset bush spawns, this should fix it.
- If you have a mod that lets you break bushes, you may be able to get out of bounds in the west forest above the waterfall.
- This was made with vanilla maps in mind. I haven’t tested this with mods like Stardew Valley Expanded, so it’s very likely to be incompatible.
Future wishlist:
I want to do a little more with this but I don’t have the experience or knowledge yet. I’ll look into doing these for future updates.
- Make the bridge unlock through a cutscene in the forest which triggers if you’ve been to the flower festival at least once (and maybe have 2 foraging skill?) where one of the townspeople (marnie, robin, or louis?) reminisce about the festival and talk about how they let this area run free throughout the year and there’s an effort to clean it up for the festival when it’s time, and they note how you have an interest in foraging so maybe they’ll keep the bridge up year-long.
- A better way to block the left side of the west woods map, maybe slightly expanding it left making sure the map layout still reflects the boat ride cutscene, but only add enough of an area to add like a bunch of rocks or cliffs or something to block further passage without making it seem weird that it isn’t normally visible during the festival.
- Update the flower festival maps to reflect the changes.
